JF HOULE WINS SLOPESTYLE AT USFO

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HUNGRY YOUNG BLOODS NIP AT THE HEELS OF FREESKIING ICONS AS ROCKY MOUNTAIN WEATHER CHALLENGES ALL AT THE 2008 SUZUKI US FREESKIING OPEN SLOPESTYLE FINALS.

A blast of winter weather proved no match for Slopestyle competitors as both experience and raw, young talent stood up to the test on Copper Mountain's Slopestyle venue

Copper Mountain, Colorado   February 1, 2008—Bring on the snow, bring on the wind, and bring on the big names…it's evident that nothing is going to stand in the way of the droves of rising new talent that took full advantage of today's Suzuki US Open Slopestyle course to step up against the sports top guns and prove they, too, have what it takes to make a mark on freeskiing's growing history.

With a well-deserved win going to Canada's JF Houle, an veteran Slopestyle athlete that has lived within sniffing distance of victory so many times, Houle enjoyed the view from the top of a big-event podium for the first time in his career, and he is clearly stoked he managed today's conditions to his full advantage to ski away with a full 3-point lead score of 86.75 over his runner-up, Russ Henshaw, who claimed silver with 83.75 points.

"It's great to see JF finally taking the win at a comp of this scale, he's been right in there in there with the leaders on so many occasions," noted Chris O'Connell, Content Manager for Newschoolers.com, "This is a breakout performance for him, and you can definitely expect to see his name at the top of the results page for a long time to come!"

On the Women's side, the USA's  Ashley Battersby held off Kim Lammare of Canada--but just barely, edging her competition out with a final tally of 76.25 points to Lammare's 76.0. "It was tough, for sure. The course was a bit slow from all the new snow, making it harder for me to keep the speed I wanted coming into a lot of the jumps…but I'm glad I kept it together, and I am so psyched to win a US Open title!"

Heads turned all day long as the young newcomers came out of the ranks to prove they are ready to crack open a new chapter of freeskiing heroes for the next generation. Most notably, 17-yearold Salomon rising star Nick Martini proved he was not willing to stand by and cut his teeth watching from the sidelines. After sneaking through the qualifying rounds, Martini went on to put up a nail-biting performance through the Semi Final and Final rounds, ultimately solidifying his future as one-to-watch at an astounding 4th place overall.

"These new guys are definitely pushing the line like never before, it is mind-blowing to see something like a Kangaroo Flip, that a few years ago was ground breaking, becoming standard issue," said Jenny Naftulin, Salomon Team Manager. "We're seeing 15 year olds coming out and stepping up to the plate like never before. They are hungry for it…these more experienced athletes had better be keeping an eye over their shoulder!"
